–The number of teens choosing abstinence has increased from 62.4% in 1997 to 72% in 2006.

–Less than 1/4 of high school freshman girls have had sex.

–Less than 1/3 of high school freshman boys have had sex.

Because infected individuals often don’t show signs of a sexually transmitted disease you may be exposed to an STD without realizing it. If you are engaging in sexual activities use protection and get tested.

–19 million new sexually transmitted infections occur each year, almost half of them among young people ages 15 to 24.

–In a single act of unprotected sex with an infected partner, a teenage girl has a 1% risk of acquiring HIV, 30% risk of getting genital herpes, and a 50% chance of contracting gonorrhea. 

Do you rely on your allowance to have a social life? 80% of unmarried teen mothers end up on welfare. If you can’t pay for a Saturday night movie without your parents’ help you should think twice about having sex.
